The closest airport is La Aurora International Airport (GUA) in Guatemala City, about a 1 hour drive from Antigua. Guatemala uses the Guatemalan Quetzal (GTQ). While some places accept U.S. dollars, it’s best to have quetzals for smaller purchases. You’ll find currency exchange areas at the airport, but if you forget, no worries! ATMs are available, and most hotels and restaurants accept major credit cards.

The majority of restaurants in Antigua serve filtered water, and many Airbnbs are equipped with eco-friendly filters and water coolers to ensure you have access to clean, safe water. While the tap water is treated, it's always best to stick with filtered or bottled water to avoid any potential tummy troubles!

Antigua has amazing spring-like weather year-round! Expect warm days (70s-80s°F) and cooler evenings (50s-60s°F). It can get a little breezy, so bring a light jacket for the evenings. The sun is strong here so sunscreen is highly suggested!

Antigua is incredibly walkable, and exploring on foot is part of its charm! The main part of the city is about a 9-block by 9-block grid, with the central plaza at its heart. Need a break from walking? Tuk-tuks (small three-wheeled taxis) are a fun and affordable option, and Uber is also available.
